Birdies Story

The Birdies Original Raised Corrugated Garden Bed was created by Simon Bird in 2007 after noticing farmers using old corrugated water tanks as garden beds. After receiving positive feedback at Garden Expos, Simon Bird and Neill Bosch decided to start manufacturing the beds themselves in 2008. They rented a 160-square-meter premise and purchased machinery for in-house manufacture.

In 2009, the All-New Birdies Original Modular Raised Garden Bed prototype was manufactured. Innovation has been the key to the success of the Birdies Brand, which now offers more than 1000 SKUs in raised garden beds, with the kit form being the basis of most of the products marketed and manufactured by Birdies.

					The beds seem like they are good quality and are easy to put together.  

You can put them together with just a screwdriver and the included wrench, and that’s very easy to do.  (But note that it’s even easier with a power tool, drill or impact driver.)

These beds can get quite long - I set a couple of mine up in the shape that’s about 2x8’.  At this length (and maybe at any length) it helps to level ground.  If you don’t have level ground they’re still very usable but you’ll need to do a little extra — level the ground, or dig parts of the bed a bit into the ground, or set them up on a bed of gravel maybe, etc.  (This probably is an issue regardless of what raised bed you buy or build.)

Note: you can use the cardboard boxes these come in to line the bottom of your beds!

					I have purchased two of these larger garden beds. So far I am loving them. They were easy to put together and look nice in my yard. I really like the they sit up high because my back gives me so many problem when I have to bend over my previous garden beds on the ground.

					I was a bit hesitant to buy a bulk shipment of these but the quality is excellent and they have terraced my garden.  My only complaint is that I put one bracing bar in each bed and I could not get them to work (they stick out on one side or another and I watched the video and spent hours working on them) so that expense was unnecessary.  Clear to me that the lower beds don’t need them.  -
