FORMULA:
Bed Length x Bed Width x Bed Height = m3 of Required Soil
1m3 of Soil = 1000 Litres
EXAMPLE 1:
1.2m (L) x 0.4m (W) x 0.3m (H) = 0.144m3 of required soil
0.144m3 of Soil = 144 Litres
EXAMPLE 2:
0.9m (L) x 0.9m (W) x 0.4m (H) = 0.324m3 of required soil
0.324m3 of Soil = 324 Litres
EXAMPLE 3:
2.2m (L) x 1.3m (W) x 0.4m (H) = 1.144m3 of required soil
1.144m3 of Soil = 1144 Litres
We recommend you use a complete organic soil or the no-dig method, which involves layering hays/straws with manures and composts. In our 740mm high beds we recommend the bottom 400mm is filled with clean sand, general garden wastes or hay bales, we have even placed them on tree stumps. For the 600mm the bottom 200mm needs to be filled with sand or general garden waste. Our 400mm beds are a perfect depth for veggies so fill the entire space up.
